Nostalgia in a Box
We’re trying to clear out our basement in order to store some stuff that’s strewn around the house a bit randomly. We’re not ready to get rid of the random items yet, but the basement junk is largely heading for the dumpster, the thrift store, and possibly a small garage sale.
But even amongst the junk in the basement we’ve found some real gems … and chief amongst them for me was a box of old LP records. Like everyone else, we switched over to CDs long ago, but I never threw out my record player and records. So this afternoon was a voyage of (re)discovery for me, and a chance for the kids to laugh at Mom’s incredibly bad taste and lack of hipness.
They overdid the “bad taste” rap I think. Sure there were some clunkers in my collection, but I also had some great albums. I scoured YouTube to find one of each - a clunker and a gem - and I’ll leave it y’all to judge which is which.
First up is The Partridge Family, with “I Think I Love You”:
followed by Glen Campbell, the “Wichita Lineman”:
